Botanical Wax Melt FAQ's
What is a wax melt?
A wax melt is a scented piece of wax which, when warmed, will melt and begin releasing fragrance in to the room.
How do I warm the wax?
You need a wax burner. There are two types; a tea light wax burner and an electric wax burner. The wax burner you use will invariably impact on the intensity and longevity of the scent release. The hotter the wax gets, the more intense the throw, but it will also shorten the life of the wax melt.
How do I use a wax melt?
Our wax melts are sold in a recyclable clamshell which consists of six wax melt segments.
- Break off one of the wax melt segments and place it in to the bowl of your wax burner.
- Light the tea light, or turn on your electric burner if you are using one. Please remember to read any safety instructions that came with your wax burner and follow any directions given accordingly.
- You will see the wax slowly start to melt, diffusing the fragrance in to your room.
When do I replace a used wax melt for a new one?
You should get over fifteen hours of scent release from each wax segment. Unlike with a candle, the amount of wax in the bowl of your burner will not decrease, however the scent will gradually deplete. When there is no scent left, then the wax melt is ready to be replaced!
How do I remove the wax melt from my wax burner?
There are a few ways to do this, however our two favourite options are:
Option One:
- If the wax melt has solidified, light the tea light, or turn on your electric burner.
- Leave for approximately thirty seconds, and then blow out the tea light, or turn off the electric burner.
- Lightly 'push' on one side of the wax melt and it should slide right out of the bowl!
- Please be careful if you have a wax burner with a detachable bowl - make sure you hold the bowl of the burner securely before applying pressure to the wax to avoid the bowl sliding off and smashing!
- If the wax is being stubborn, leave the tea light, or electric burner on for a little longer and repeat steps 2 to 4.
- Wipe the inside of the bowl with a paper towel to remove any wax residue.
- If the wax is still in its molten form, blow out the tea light, or turn off the electric burner.
- Place some cotton wool pads or paper towels in the wax burner bowl to soak up the wax.
- Wipe the inside of the bowl with a paper towel to remove any wax residue.
- Please be careful not to touch the molten wax with your fingers if you are using this method as the wax will be very hot!
What are the wax melts made from?
We spent almost two years perfecting our unique blend which combines soy wax and coconut wax. We infuse our wax blend with only the highest quality fragrance oils. We also add botanicals (dried flower petals) which offer a beautiful aesthetic to the wax melt once melted.
I have read the label at the bottom of the wax melts I have just purchased, and there is some scary stuff on there. Should I be worried?!
This label is known as a 'CLP' label and must be affixed to any product which contains a chemical compound. This means that any products including fragrance oils (and for reference, products containing essential oils too) need to contain this information! We have gone to great lengths to ensure that our products are safe, and are compliant with all of the relevant legislation.
This label is crucial because if an accident occurred and the wax melt was consumed, for example, the treating medical professional would need to have sight of this information in order to know what treatment to provide. Whilst we hope that an accident like this never happens, you can never be too careful, and we would never risk the safety of our customers.
Please contact us right away if you find yourself needing to seek medical attention for whatever reason. We will immediately provide you with the appropriate Safety Data Sheet. This is a document which contains all chemical information relating to the fragrance oil contained within the wax melt product, and should also be provided to the treating medical professional assisting you. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Is there any safety information I need to know?
All of our wax melt packaging has important safety information included on the label. It is very important that you read this before using the wax melts.
If you are using a tea light burner, please ensure the tea light you are using is unscented.
There are different sized tealights and it is important that you use the correct size for your burner. Using a tealight that is too large for your burner could result in overheating and is a fire hazard. Never use an eight hour tea light. Even the larger wax burners are too small to safely accommodate this size tea light.
As always, never leave a burning tea-light unattended. Keep away from draughts and flammable objects.
Do not move the wax burner when the tea light is lit, or when the wax (either the wax melt, or melted tea light) is in its molten form.
Please keep the wax melts out of reach of children and pets. Do not eat.
If the wax melt is consumed, please seek medical attention immediately. Please bring the wax melt packaging with you. It is crucial that you show the treating medical professional the label affixed to the bottom of the wax melt packaging as this will provide details of the chemicals contained within the fragrance oil. Please contact us immediately and we can provide you with the safety data sheet relating to the specific fragrance which again, should be provided to the medical professional.
